CONTINUING FOCUS GROUP QUESTIONS:
would you keep appreciate the same style on a website that is on the same companies magazine?
I chose 3 girls ( 16, 19, 23) and 2 boys (17, 19) as my focus group, I asked them questions to deepen my understanding of what a target audience want.
what part of a lifestyle magazine would you want to read the most?
How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words)
My brief is to create two front covers and the contents pages of a new lifestyle/fashion magazine that is called Parler Central. Parler Central magazine and website will have a demographic of predominately women between the ages of 16 to 25; this is decided through my research concluding that the gender and age range most likely to read a lifestyle/fashion magazine falls within these. In order to attract this demographic I will be using models within this age range as models and story images, ensuring to represent different genders, ethnicities etc. with only soft news/stories which reflect the demographics usual values. The miss en scene within my magazines and websites will include similar codes and conventions in order to establish brand identity while having noticeable differences between each volume to keep engagement. The codes and conventions included in these types of magazines and websites which I will be incorporating into mine are: attractive and intreuiging colour schemes, representations of predominantly females but ensuring to include males, wide variety of different topics such as fashion, travel, wellbeing, celebrity etc., relatable cover lines and direct mode of address.
the website will include multiple headlines naming each category with eye catching titles and images, these will have attractive categories that will interest readers of this demographic such as fashion, plus size fashion, mens fashion, wellbeing, travel, art and more- giving readers a wide range to read from in the event that there is a category not of interest to them. the name of the company will be at the top of the page as the masthead and there will be multiple ways to get to know more about the company through a 'get to know us' page and also a subscribe and messages section for readers to post comments. there will be multiple advertisements throughout the website that will likely be of interest to the demographic such as popular clothing brands, student discounts and helplines. the celebrity page will include a written piece from a celebrity talking about trends and sensitive topics such as body image and the dangers of social media- ensuring awareness is spread to this age range so the users are safe, along with pictures and a fun and interesting Q and A. the audio visual element will include the celebrity answering on 'whats in my bag'? this can promote certain products and gain interest for readers, allowing them to know what's on trend and what celebrities use. there will be social media hyperlinks on the side of the page to have a wider platform for posting, interacting and more as social media is extremely common within ages 16-25 as around 94% of them have a social media page.
How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production?
To encourage my audience to go and read my website after reading the magazine, I will use QR codes and direct mode of address on both the front covers and contents page, including having writing that says ' go to the website for more' 'scan this QR code to see more!' therefore I will be making my magazine company digitally convergent (along with the use of social media)
